The Indian Naval Hydrographic Department conducts courses for Hydrographic officers, sailors, technicians and civilians, both from India and abroad. The Long and Basic Hydrographic courses conducted by the National Institute of Hydrography, Goa have been recognised with Cat ‘A’ and ‘B’ certification in accordance with S-5A, First Edition, and version 1.0.2 – Jun 18 of the FIH/IHO/ICA International Board on standards of Competence for Hydrographers and Nautical Cartographers, in 2020.
The Cat ‘A’ and Cat ‘B’ courses offer the following specializations:-

The National Institute of Hydrography, Goa has been designated as the Regional Hydrographic Training Center for Africa, Persian Gulf and South East Asian Region and has so far trained more than 800 trainees from friendly foreign countries.

The Long Hydrographic Course is also recognized by the Goa University for the award of Master’s Degree in Hydrographic Surveying.
ENC and Chart Production Workshop is being conducted at NHO, Dehradun for foreign officer under the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) scheme.
The Petty Officer qualification course is recognized by Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) for the award of Diploma in Hydrographic Surveying.
